PCA 2016 gets under way with $100K Super High Roller
Thousands of excited poker players have already arrived at Atlantis in the Bahamas ready for PCA 2016. The festival kicks off today with the flagship $100,000 Super High Roller event. The three-day tourney always attracts top players from around the world and the 2016 edition will be no exception; among those set to compete are Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mercier plus EPT11 Grand Final Super High Roller champion Mustapha Kanit, 2014 WCOOP World Champion Fedor Holz (who won the WPT Philippines Super High Roller three days ago for nearly $3.5m), 2015 WSOP Main Event champion Joe McKeehen, PCA 2014 $100k runner-up Dan Shak, Bill Perkins, Antonio Esfandiari, Cary Katz, and Paul Newey.
Last year the event attracted 66 entries with Steve O'Dwyer taking it down for $1,872,580. That victory remains the Irish pro's biggest single cash and was the start of a simply incredible year. He was third in the EPT11 Grand Final €25k High Roller in May and seventh in the EPT12 Barcelona €50k in August. He won the €10k High Roller at EPT12 Malta in October and was fourth in the APPT Asia Championship of Poker Super High Roller in November. Last month he not only won the EPT Prague €50k Super High Roller (for €746,543) but then finished 11th in the €25k High Roller a week later. Only two days ago, he was fourth at the WPT Super High Roller in the Philippines - for $953,700. His haul in the last month alone is over $1.8 million and his lifetime winnings now top $13 million.
