Record-Breaking Day 1b Brings UKIPT Main Event Field over 1,000
In prime position out of the 273 remaining players to take home a slice of the money is overall chip leader Stefan Schillhabel, who returns tomorrow with 352,000 chips – the record for the largest stack built in a UKIPT on Day 1.
Yesterday’s 214-runner Day 1a of the €1,000 + €100 UKIPT Dublin Main Event was made to seem modest today, as 788 players descended on Day 1b (breaking the single-day UKIPT attendance record). When the UKIPT and the EPT combine to run 67 tournaments over 12 days, the atmosphere ratchets up a notch, and today even the spacious Royal Dublin Society felt packed to the rafters.
Prior EPT champions such as Anton Wigg, Kevin MacPhee, David Vamplew and PokerStars Team Online’s Mickey Petersen rubbed shoulders with UKIPT winners like Dean Hutchison, Ludovic Geilich and inaugural UKIPT Dublin champion Max Silver. Of the 10 EPT winners playing today, not one made it through, but Daniel Stacey still waves the flag for UKIPT victors (Isle of Man back in October) with 91,600.
Schillhabel is no stranger to the live tournament felt, having finished 4th in the EPT11 Malta Main Event for €260,500. His closest rivals are both Day 1b survivors, Thomas Boivin (342,500) and Olivier Ferrero (315,500), while yesterday’s chip leader Vladimir Velikov lies in 4th place overall with 301,500.
