Urbanovich wins European Poker Tour Dublin Main Event for €561K!

Polish wunderkind Dzmitry Urbanovich has won the European Poker Tour (EPT) 12 Dublin €5,300 Main Event for €561,900, to top a simply unbelievable 12 months of poker.

Urbanovich first hit the spotlight a year ago when he won four events in a single festival at EPT Malta in March, including the €25,000 High Roller. Still only 19 at the time, it was the start of a staggering run which culminated in him being crowned the EPT Player of the Year trophy at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final last May.

During that festival, he came close to winning the €100,000 Super High Roller, finishing second to poker legend Erik Seidel for a €1,446,000 payday. That result remains his biggest single cash to date and tonight he said he learned a lot from that experience.

Talking of the three-hour heads-up duel against German student Gilles Bernies, he said: “I played today’s heads-up “Seidel” style. I learned a lot from him.” The runner-up finish in Monaco put Urbanovich top of the Poland all time money list and he cemented that position at the start of Season 12 with another sensational result – runner-up in the €50,000 Super High Roller in Barcelona for €841,500.

Urbanovich has now accrued more than $4.82 million in live tournament winnings, the vast majority of that in the last 11 months. Even before the Main Event began in Dublin, he had already cashed twice in Dublin, including runner-up in the combined chess and poker tournament. He won his seat for EPT Dublin on PokerStars in a €530 NL satellite last month.

In May, Urbanovich turns 21 and will be eligible to play the World Series for the first time – and has already stated his ambition to win three bracelets.

2014 Irish Open champion Patrick "clickii10" Clarke was the last Irishman standing and finished fourth for €193,650.

There were 605 players in the Main Event at this year’s EPT Dublin Poker Festival, creating a €2,934,250 prize pool with 87 players paid.

Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano, who was 17th for €25,820, became the first player to cash in three EPT Dublin Main Events, with top 24 finishes each time. This was his best Dublin result: he was 24th in Season 4 for €10,210 and 13th in Season 3 for €20,330. It was the Italian’s 21st EPT Main Event cash and he’s now just one behind record-holder and fellow Pro Johnny Lodden.

Numerous EPT champions made the money – the best result was from EPT11 Grand Final winner Adrian Mateos who was tenth for €39,320. Dominik Panka and Anton Wigg both picked up €14,960 for finishing 29th and 31st respectively. Twitch star Jaime Staples, a member of Team PokerStars Pro Online, notched up his first EPT Main Event cash, picking up €11,440 for his 43rd place finish while Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree was 74th for €9,100.

Other notable players in the money were EPT Prague runner-up David Boyaciyan (22nd €19,950), High Roller regular Nick Petrangelo (40th €11,440) and UK & Ireland (UKIPT) Dublin champion Kevin Killeen (78th €9,100).

Joining forces with the UK & Ireland Poker Tour, this was the EPT’s first visit to the Irish capital in over eight years – and the biggest live poker event ever hosted in Ireland.
