Boika Leads Day 1a of WPT Prague, Ruzicka Not Far Behind
After eight thrilling levels of poker, Day 1a of the WPT Prague Main Event is in the can, with 38 players surviving to come back on Thursday for Day 2. Before then, of course, we have Day 1b tomorrow, where we’re expecting the bulk of our Day 1 field to arrive. They’ll have to go some way to prove themselves as skilled as Day 1a, after eight hours of fantastic play featured bracelet holders, former WPT champions, European and American heavyweights alike.
With eleven players in their seats as play began, the day saw top players drift towards the cardroom in pairs, trios or on their own, each luminary improving what was an extrmely tough Day 1 field that got harder with every blind level. Steve O’Dwyer, Stephen Chidwick, Kevin MacPhee, Gaelle Baumann and Eugene Katchalov were just a few of the big names involved.
For much of the day, Swedish player Alexander Ivarsson led, and ran up a stack of 126,000. But just as he couldn’t seem to hold onto the lead, neither could anyone, and the end of day counts saw no-one end up with six figures. Aliaksei Boika finished with a handful of big blinds more that Vojtech Ruzicka and top the leaderboard as we look forward to Day 1b, which begins at 2pm local time here at the Kings Casino in Prague.
