The annual antipodean pokerfest that is the "Aussie Millions" got underway Thursday in its traditional home of the Crown Casino in Melbourne.
This year boasts 24 events including numerous formats of NLHE, PLO, HORSE, and 8-Game mix between now and February 1st. Highlights, as ever, will be the $10,600 Main Event (Jan 24th-30th), the $25,000 Challenge (Jan 22nd-23rd), the $100k Challenge (Jan 24th - 30th), and the LK Boutique $250k Challenge (Jan 31st - Feb 1st) - a tournament which may as well change its name to the "Phil Ivey Challenge", as Ivey has won the event 3 out of the 4 times it has run.
One event has already been decided as home favourite James Obst took down the $2500 HORSE event for $35.1k on Friday (Obst won the $2500 8-Game event here two years ago).
The other event close to completion is Event #1, the $1,150 Millon Dollar Guarantee NLHE event. With a huge 1,320 players registering over four days the guarantee was easily met and exceeded. Play is still currently underway with just 19 players left with local player Keven Blackwood leading the field with 1.2m chips.
