London Croupier Steals Thousands in Chips Via Tube to His Sock

A poker dealer at London's Cromwell Mint Casino has been arrested after it was discovered that he had been stealing thousands of pounds worth of chips by slipping them into his pocket, through a tube, and into his socks.

Bosses at the West London casino started to suspect the Romanian dealer might be stealing after observing him during a gaming session and subsequently started monitoring his behaviour at the table.

The croupier was surreptitiously palming chips into a fake trouser pocket into a tube which ran down his leg and into his sock. He then passed the chips on to a female accomplice, described as an "Eastern European beauty" on a fire escape during his cigarette break. It is believed that the scam ran for several months, with a friend posing as a casino winner coming in to cash in the chips a few days later.

After careful observation the casino arranged for security staff to search the croupier before he had the chance to offload his booty. According to a casino source, "The chips literally fell out of him as he stood outside in the street. He even had some secreted in his socks."

It is unclear how much the croupier managed to steal from the scam, although £12,000 in cash was recovered from his flat when it was subsequently searched by the police.

Despite the theft, the croupier actually escaped with just a caution (and of course the sack from his job) and was lucky to avoid jail time.
