Painting of Dogs Playing Poker Sells for Over $650.000

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge's (September 18, 1844 – January 13, 1934) famous painting of dogs playing poker was recently sold for over $650.000.

Coolidge was an American artist, mainly known for his paintings of dogs playing poker. Known as "Cash" or "Kash" in his family, he often signed his work in the 19th century with the latter spelling, sometimes spelling out his entire name, for comic effect, as "Kash Koolidge".

Coolidge, who passed away in 1934, finished his now sold "Poker Game" painting in 1894. It was sold to a collector for a whopping $658,000 at a Sotheby's New York sale on 18 November 2015.

Other Coolidge's paintings of dogs playing poker have been sold also earlier for similar prices. In February 15, 2005, two Coolidge paintings, "A Bold Bluff" and "Waterloo" sold for a combined price of $590,400.
